The Process

How We Settle Your IRS Debt

The Offer in Compromise process can feel overwhelming — but you never have to face it alone. Here's exactly what happens from your first call to your final resolution.

What Is an Offer in Compromise?

An Offer in Compromise (OIC) is an IRS program that allows qualifying taxpayers to settle their tax debt for less than the full amount owed. The IRS accepts an OIC when it determines that the offered amount represents the most they can reasonably expect to collect.

Qualifying for and successfully negotiating an OIC requires detailed financial documentation, precise calculations, and knowledge of IRS procedures. One mistake can result in rejection — which is why having a licensed Enrolled Agent handle the process is critical.

What Is an Enrolled Agent?

An Enrolled Agent (EA) is a federally licensed tax professional authorized by the U.S. Department of the Treasury to represent taxpayers before the IRS in all matters — including audits, collections, and appeals. EAs hold the highest credential the IRS grants to tax professionals. Unlike CPAs or attorneys who may handle tax matters as part of a broader practice, Enrolled Agents specialize exclusively in taxation.

Step by Step

From First Call to Final Resolution

01

Free Confidential Consultation

Day 1

You speak with a licensed Enrolled Agent who reviews your tax situation, total debt, income, and assets. We assess whether you qualify for an Offer in Compromise and explain every option available to you — at no cost and no obligation.

You do

Share your basic financial situation with us.

We do

Evaluate your eligibility, explain your options, and answer every question.

02

We Gather Your Financial Picture

Week 1–2

We collect the financial documentation the IRS requires — income records, bank statements, asset valuations, and monthly expenses. We handle the organization and analysis so you don't have to navigate IRS forms and requirements on your own.

You do

Provide documents we request (pay stubs, bank statements, etc.).

We do

Organize, analyze, and prepare your complete financial profile for the IRS.

03

We Prepare and Submit Your OIC

Week 2–4

Your Enrolled Agent prepares IRS Form 656 (Offer in Compromise) and Form 433-A (Collection Information Statement) with precision. We calculate the lowest defensible offer amount and submit your complete application to the IRS on your behalf.

You do

Review and sign the application.

We do

Prepare all IRS forms, calculate your offer amount, and submit the application.

04

We Handle All IRS Communication

Months 1–12

Once your OIC is submitted, the IRS review process typically takes 6–12 months. During this entire period, all IRS correspondence, phone calls, and requests go directly to us. You will not receive threatening letters or stressful calls — we carry that weight.

You do

Nothing. Live your life.

We do

Respond to all IRS inquiries, provide supplemental documentation, and advocate for your offer.

05

You Settle for Less

Resolution

When the IRS accepts your Offer in Compromise, you pay the agreed settlement amount — often a fraction of what you originally owed. Your tax debt is resolved, penalties and interest stop accruing, and you can move forward with financial freedom.

You do

Pay the agreed settlement amount.

We do

Confirm acceptance, guide you through final payment, and close your case.

The Risk of Going It Alone

Why Not Handle It Yourself?

The IRS allows taxpayers to submit an OIC without professional help — but the rejection rate for self-prepared applications is significantly higher. The IRS looks for any reason to reject an offer: incomplete documentation, incorrect financial calculations, missed deadlines, or an offer amount that doesn't align with IRS formulas. A rejected OIC can reset the clock on collections and leave you in a worse position than before.

High rejection rate for self-prepared applications
One missed document can trigger immediate rejection
Incorrect offer calculations are the most common failure point
Rejection resets IRS collection timelines
IRS agents are trained negotiators — you are not

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
